The State University of Tetovo ( Macedonian Државен универзитет во Тетово, Albanian Universiteti Shtetëror i Tetovës ) was founded by a group of initiators consisting of Albanian-speaking intellectuals of the Republic of Macedonia, members of public associations and political parties, as well as domestic and foreign sponsors in Tetovo. The Macedonian government has recognized the University on 13 February 2004 as a state institution.

The university consists of 11 faculties, which are offered to study programs for Bachelor's and Master's degrees. The courses take place in the Albanian language.

The university education is carried out according to modern scientific methods and in accordance with the Bologna process. Objective of this research is to use current trends in higher education and thereby become part of the family of European and world universities.

Studying at the faculty takes place in accordance with the Bologna Declaration and ECTS. There are undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The doctoral program is in the process of accreditation (2010).

The University is a member of the network of Balkan Universities ( Albania, Bosnia - Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Kosovo, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro).
