Staten Island Museum

The Staten Iceland Museum, also Staten Iceland Institute of Arts & Sciences called, is a museum on Staten Iceland, New York City, in the United States.

History

The Staten Iceland museum was founded in 1881 and is the oldest cultural institution on Staten Iceland. It was founded by several locally-based art collectors and natural historians such as Nathaniel Lord Britton, who wanted to combine their private collections and make them accessible to the public. One of the ideas of the founding fathers was to draw attention to the environment and nature as well as their protection. From the activities surrounding the oldest cultural institution created other facilities such as the New York Botanical Garden, its first director of the founders of Staten Iceland Museum, Lord Britton was. Today the institution sees its task in the documentation and exhibition of objects of natural history and local history with the background of public education and the enrichment of the cultural landscape. The exhibition is divided today into three areas: Natural Sciences, Fine Art and History Archives & Library.
