States of Guernsey

The States of Guernsey ( French: États de Guernsey ) is the parliament of the Channel Island of Guernsey and the associated Herm Island.

The States of Guernsey also have certain legislative powers for Alderney and Sark (part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey) as " Bailiwick -wide legislation". Originally, the States of Guernsey were a national assembly, consisting of the Chief Justice ( Bailiff ), the pastors, the mayors ( Constable ) and the elected representatives of the taxpayers ( JURATS ). The latter were for life, the elected constables to 3 years. Following several constitutional reforms all members of the States of Guernsey are now directly elected, two elected by the States of Alderney Alderney members represent.
