States Rights Gist

States Rights Gist ( born September 3, 1831 in Union District, South Carolina, † November 30, 1864 in Franklin, Tennessee) was a brigadier general in the Army of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War.

Life

After visiting the school in Winnsboro, he completed in 1852 off the South Carolina College and in 1854 successfully completed the study of law at Harvard University. He then joined the militia of South Carolina, where he held the rank of brigadier. In the First Battle of Manassas Gist served as a volunteer under Barnard Elliott Bee and took over after his death the command. On 20 March 1862 he was appointed brigadier general. During the Battle of Franklin States Rights Gist was as commander of the Division John Calvin Brown from the corps of General Benjamin Franklin Cheatham, under the command of General John Bell Hood, fighting against the army of the northern states during the Franklin - Nashville campaign.
