Statistics New Zealand

Statistics New Zealand ( Aotearoa māori Tatauranga; German about Statistics New Zealand) is the statistical office of New Zealand. On the basis of the Statistics Act 1975, it is responsible for official statistics in New Zealand.

The seat of authority is in the Statistics House in the capital, Wellington.

By 1994, the Office was called Department of Statistics. The New Zealand Minister of Statistics is Maurice Williamson.

Statistics New Zealand developed and disseminated all official government statistics of New Zealand. In addition to this general line role in the statistics, the organization has carried out several statistical programs. Below that is the five-yearly census carried out. Much of the resulting calculated statistics will be published free of charge on the website of Statistics New Zealand.

In addition, statistical classifications and standards for New Zealand will be developed and implemented research and development projects on statistical methods.

The Authority also supports developing countries in the Pacific region, particularly the Pacific islands of Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia.
