Status bar

The status bar ( engl. status bar), also called status line, is a passive graphical element of a computer program, which is usually located at the bottom of the screen and displays information about the status of the program. In a Web browser, for example (see figure) shows how far the loading a web page has progressed or whether all elements of the page have been loaded; often in a graphics program, however, the current position of the cursor on the workspace.

The status bar is normally divided by vertical lines into several sections, which can sometimes also contain symbols ( see figure). In a Web browser, for example, displays a closed padlock icon indicates that the current website has been transmitted over a secure connection.
