The Staufen is a volcanic mountain in Hegau in the south of Baden- Württemberg. It rises on the northeastern outskirts of Hilzingen.

History

On the mountain there is the 1272 first mentioned in the same Staufen castle.

The cone-shaped mountain, including the castle complex was from about 1269 to the 15th century in feudal possession of the Lords of Homburg, partly fief of the Counts of Hohenberg, until it was taken over in 1381 by the Dukes of Austria.

Height

The top of the Staufen has a height 593 m above sea level. NN.
