Staurogram

The Staurogramm is a symbol of Jesus Christ.

Either it is a ligature formed from the superimposition position of the Greek letter Τ ( tau ) and Ρ ( rho ), the ( often translated as the middle part of the shortened noun sacrum " Stavros " as " cross", but correctly " pile " or " tribe" ) was common.

( Mort Lact.. Pers 44.1 to 9 ) Based on the Lactantius of traditional portrayal of the character that Constantine the Great before the Battle of the Milvian Bridge is said to have seen in a dream, it is also used as ligation, formed from the 45 ° rotated Greek letter Χ (chi ) and the Greek letter Ρ ( rho ) is described.

Whether it has actually acted in the situation described by Lactantius character is a Staurogramm is controversial. In many cases this description as a Henkel cross ( ankh - sign, Crux Ansata Latin ) is interpreted. Some ancient historians interpret it as a monogram of Christ.

In Unicode, the character U 2 CE8 COPTIC SYMBOL TAU RO ( ⳨ ) is defined in the Unicode block Coptic.
