STCW Convention

The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers ( STCW Convention engl. International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers ) is a UN Convention in 1978 by the International Maritime Organization was created. Currently valid version is the 1995 revised STCW Convention (STCW 95), which in turn several times in between experienced minor changes.

The STCW Convention should provide internationally comparable standards in the training of seafarers. This is also the many different national qualifications were gradually unified. The Convention also contains general procedures for the Security guard (bridge, engine, cargo handling ) manpower.

The STCW Convention applies to ships of flag States that have not ratified the STCW Convention, provided that they are visiting a port of a Contracting State.

The inspectors carrying out port State control whether the requirements of the STCW Convention are complied with, among other things ( in Germany the See-BG ) check.
