Steal (Basketball)

A Steal ( to German: steal, steal ) is a technical term of the sport of basketball.

A Steal is the conquest of the ball by the defending team within the framework of the defense work. After a Steal until then defending team can go directly to the attack.

The ball win by a self-inflicted errors of the attacking team (eg by step error, the return leg on the center line, pass out of play ) is not Steal. Also not Steal is the conquest of the ball after a basket toss attempt by the attacking team.

A Steal is thus one of several forms of ball profit. With a Steal of the defending team, a turnover of the attacking team is always connected, but is not any turnover a steal.

The number of steals is conducted in the official game statistics, such as the National Basketball League and is included in the calculation of effectiveness.
