The nature park Stechlin - Ruppin country is the region around the Stechlinsee, Ruppin Switzerland and the Rheinberger Lake District. The area around the Stechlinsee has been since 1938 on an area of 1,774 hectares of the status of a nature reserve. The " nature reserve Stechlin " was protected on 15 November 2002 with a total area of 8,760 hectares by fixing the ordinance. In 2001, the Nature Park was published and has since become the 15th major reserve of the federal state of Brandenburg. After the Brandenburg Nature Conservation Act consist Nature Parks for the most part of nature reserves and landscape protection areas. The nature park Stechlin - Ruppin country houses face proportionately more than the half of the natural clear water lakes in Brandenburg and in addition some special features, such as the occurrence of dystrophic bog lakes, peat bogs and a variety of woods, especially beech forests. The nature park has an area of about 680 square kilometers, to about 62 % of forests, only 7% of lakes (more than 100) and rivers, about 17 % of arable land, about 9% of grassland and about 5% of infrastructure and residential space will be occupied.
Location and Transport
The nature park is located in the districts of Upper Havel ( 1/3 ) and Ostprignitz -Ruppin (approx. 2/3) in the north of the federal state of Brandenburg and is adjacent to the border of Mecklenburg -Western Pomerania and on the east by the Natural Park Uckermärkische lakes. The nature park is located on the area of the cities Fürstenberg / Havel, Gransee, Lindow (Mark), Neuruppin, Rheinberg and Wittstock / Dosse as well as the communities Großwoltersdorf, Herzberg (Mark), Sonneberg, Stechlin, Storbeck - Frankendorf and Vielitzsee.
Due to the nature park leads the federal highway 122 at its eastern edge runs the federal highway 96 and at its southern edge of the highway 167
Naturparkhaus
The visitor center of the Natural Park is located in Menz. In the Nature Park House interactive exhibition is presented, which is especially interesting for children and in the characteristic habitats of the area - will be presented with their inhabitants - beech forests, bogs and clear-water lakes.
