Stedten is a town in the sea area Mansfeld region and is located on the Weida in the southeastern corner of the district of Mansfeld- South Harz in Saxony- Anhalt.

History

Stedten is one of the oldest settlements in the Mansfeld region. In a resulting 881-899 Directory of tithing of Hersfeld Monastery ( Hersfeld tithe directory) is Stedten first mentioned as requiring a tenth place in the frieze Stedi field in a document.

Originally, agriculture was the main source of income of the population. With the increasing influence of mining itself Stedten developed more and more to an industrial village and the population grew constantly. Already in the 19th century, several mines and opencast mines were opened. In 1913, still was a briquette factory, which was closed in 1994 and marked the end of mining in place.
