Steel Pulse

Steel Pulse is a British Roots and Conscious Reggae Band.

The formation was created when at Handsworth Wood Boys School (Birmingham, England) David Hinds (vocals, guitar), Basil Gabbidon ( lead guitar, vocals) and Ronald McQueen (bass ) merged together into a band. Hinds, musical leader of the band was, since they were established from the beginning, the driving force behind Steel Pulse in the Birmingham club scene. They were largely inspired by the ideas of Marcus Garvey's content with which they first came through the music of Burning Spear in touch. Steel Pulse was one of the late 1970s in the movement of Rock Against Racism active bands on their LP Tribute To The Martyrs they dedicated to the movement of the song Jah Pickney - RAR.

In 1987, they won with Babylon The Bandit Grammy for Best Reggae Recording.
