Steenbek-Projensdorf

Steenbek - Projensdorf referred to the western part of the district of Kiel- Wik in the northwest of Kiel, about five to ten kilometers from the city center.

History

Between the villages of Wik and Suchsdorf was towards the end of the 18th century, the agricultural material Projensdorf, which now belongs to the municipality of old wood. North of the Good Projensdorf flowed easily over the winding river Levensau, which was developed from 1777 to 1784 the Eider Canal. On the lands of the estate Projensdorf is the bridgeless Rathmann villages lock. 1798 attracted eight farmers who had previously been serfs in the Wik, for Kürberg, the hill on which the Lubinus Hospital is located, and resolved at this point a new little village, which they called Steenbek. The name is a reference to a stream, the Steinbach, which flowed here. The southern edge of the Projensdorfer enclosure forms the historic border between Steenbek and Projensdorf.

From 1960, the settlement Steenbek - Projensdorfs started on such a large scale that the area received a large urban expression during the 1970s and 1980s.

Steenbek and Projensdorf form one of the 18 town council districts in the city of Kiel and although the town council District 4 Steenbek - Projensdorf since 1981. Its border is in the southwest between Holstein-Stadion and Levensau bridge along the highway 76 - the southwest lies the town council district Suchsdorf.
