SteepleChase Records

Steeple Chase Records is a 1972 by Nils Winther (1944 ) in Copenhagen based Danish jazz label. After Richard Cook is one of the leading European independent label in the field of modern jazz.

Winther, then a student in Copenhagen, took the mediation of Kenny Drew senior the appearance of Jackie McLean Quartet in Jazzhus Montmartre, from which the first record, " Jackie McLean Quartet Live at the Montmartre " was he in with the money from his scholarship 500cc edition brought out. As with McLean recordings he made in 1974 in New York thereafter, met Andrew Hill, who had already lost his Blue Note Records contract five years earlier, do so. 1974 began the collaboration of the label with the living in Copenhagen Dexter Gordon ( " The Apartment "). Other musicians of the label are Horace Parlan, Duke Jordan ( " Flight to Denmark" 1973), Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Archie Shepp, Thad Jones, and Niels -Henning Ørsted Pedersen. The label is mainly interested in bebop and the consequent evolving trends; only a few albums, some of Anthony Braxton and Lee Konitz point in the avant-garde. The albums are all produced by Winther.
