Stefan Dohr

Stefan Dohr ( born September 3, 1965 in Münster ) is a German horn player.

Work

Stefan Dohr studied in Essen and Cologne, before he was principal horn in the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra at age 19. This was followed by engagements at the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice and the Deutsches Symphonie -Orchester Berlin. Since 1993 Stefan Dohr is principal horn of the Berlin Philharmonic. In addition, he is a lecturer and board member of the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic.

Besides his work as an orchestral musician, he makes music with numerous chamber ensembles including the Ensemble Modern and the Ensemble Wien - Berlin, Albert -Schweitzer- octet.

As a soloist he has worked with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Bernard Haitink, Christian Thielemann, Ingo Metzmacher and Daniel Harding as well as Claudio Abbado, who invited him as principal horn with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.

In addition to the Classical and Romantic Horn Concertos by Mozart, Joseph Haydn and Richard Strauss, his interest is also the contemporary works of György Ligeti, Oliver Knussen and Volker David Kirchner. In March 2008, he premiered the Horn Concerto by Herbert Willi written for him in the Vienna Musikverein.

Another focus is the chamber music, he uses not only with his colleagues of the Berlin Philharmonic in various ensembles, but also as a chamber music partner of Maurizio Pollini, Lars Vogt, Kolja Blacher, Ian Bostridge and others, as well as a member of the Ensemble Wien-Berlin, which is composed of soloists of the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic.

He is a welcome guest of various chamber music festivals, has been a visiting professor at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler and has been working at the " Herbert von Karajan Academy ", as well as at international master classes as a teacher.

In July 2007 she released "Opera", a CD of opera paraphrases, the Stefan Dohr has recorded with his colleagues of the Philharmonic horn section. A shoot with the horn concertos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and completions and additions of Mozart's unfinished concerto, K. 412/514 ( 386b ) by Süssmayr, Nino Rota and Robert D. Levin has recorded for the label Camerata Stefan Dohr. In the fall of 2011, the album was released " FOUR CORNERS ", the Stefan Dohr has recorded once again with the Philharmonic horn colleagues.
