Stefan Giller

Stefan January Giller ( born September 19, 1833 in Opatówek, Poland, † January 27, 1918 ) was a Polish writer and teacher in Kalisz and Opatowek. He and his elder brother Agaton Giller played an important role in the Polish national movement.

Life

The son by Jan Giller and the Franciszka Szpadkowska was a poet and writer, a witness of Polish Romanticism. In addition, he taught the Polish language in schools in Kalisz at a time when the Russian government of Congress Poland was trying to sell the Polish language from public life.

Giller was highly respected by his students and others. Among his pupils were well-known figures such as the President of the Polish Republic, Stanisław Wojciechowski, the rector of the University of Vilnius, Alfons Parczewski.

1997 many letters and documents from Stefan and Agaton Giller were found and published under the title: " The Unknown Letters of Giller the family".

Around 1855 he married in Kalisz Teressa Rohrens (* 1836 in Kalisz ).
