After the withdrawal of the former Toyota factory team after the end of the 2009 season Stefanovic took over the remains and speculated on the failure of the newly registered team Lotus Racing, Campos Grand Prix, U.S. F1 and Virgin Racing.

History

Zoran Stefanović, has expressed interest in 1997 to take over the failed Formula 1 project of Lola with the T97/30, which for the first race of the 1997 season not qualified and no longer line up for the second race after the withdrawal of the main sponsor could. The takeover failed.

The enrollments for the 2010 season, which took place before the backdrop of the planned budget limitation in Formula 1, the application of SGP was not considered by the FIA . Stefanović thereafter initiated an attempt to enforce by judicial means to Formula 1, but these broke off again. After the sudden retreat of the Formula 1 teams of Toyota in November 2009, the Serb bought the remains and the developments already made for the 2010 season - in the hope of obtaining the vacant starting place for the 2010 season in this way. This was however given to the Sauber team.

SGP nevertheless prepared to continue to a possible Formula 1 started before and continued his hopes of a failure of one of the newly registered teams Campos and U.S. F1. Even F1 promoter Bernie Ecclestone publicly supported these hopes, as he said in an interview that he expected that two of the new racing teams could not finish their cars for next season, but he still reckon with 24 cars on the grid. Shortly before the start of the season it was revealed that at least the U.S. project U.S. F1 is not taken up. SGP was material to fly to the venue of the first race to Bahrain to step in at short notice. In addition, a presentation of the team was announced for the first week of March 2010, which, however, actually did not take place. On 3 March 2010 the FIA announced that SGP is not approved for Formula 1 2010 season.

The initial plan to use the 2010 season in the event of non- approval from the FIA for test rides, could not be implemented, since almost all contracts of Stefan GP were tied to a starting place in Formula 1. This means that Stefanovic Although 2010 is not into Formula 1, but could minimize the financial losses.

Stefan Grand Prix competed in April 2010, in addition Durango and Epsilon Euskadi again to the free 13th place in the Formula 1 2011 season. However, the FIA decided in September 2010 to allow no other team for the following season.
