Stefan Groothuis

Stefan Groothuis ( born November 23, 1981 in Empe ) is a Dutch speed skater who specializes in distances from 500 to 1500 meters.

Stefan Groothuis debuted in November 2002 at the World Cup in Nagano. To date ( March 2013 ) of multiple Dutch champion ran (over 1000 and 1500 meters and the sprint four-way battle ) nine times on the first place in a World Cup race. His best result in the World Cup he achieved this in 2011/12, where he won the overall World Cup over 1000 meters for the first time.

Groothuis has participated in the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. His best finish he achieved with a fourth place on the 1000 meters. At the World Cup 2011 in Inzell he finished third over 1000 m. But his most successful year was 2012, when he over 1000 meters, respectively wins the world title at the Sprint World Championships in Calgary in the sprint and four-way battle for the Single Distances Championships in Heerenveen.
