Stefan Hakenberg

Stefan hook Berg ( born 1960 in Wuppertal ) is a German composer.

He studied music at the Universities of Dusseldorf and Cologne, including composition with Hans Werner Henze, whose alternative cultural projects in Montepulciano, in Alsfeld in Germany and mountain he has contributed. Inspired by the experience gained there he developed his own projects, such as the opera The Children's Crusade for the Cologne Opera House. 1994 Stefan Hakenberg received a doctoral fellowship at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he studied with Mario Davidovsky and Bernard Rands. More Scholarships took him to the summer festivals in Tanglewood, Aspen and Fontainebleau, in the artists' colonies The Mac Dowell Colony in New Hampshire, Yaddo in Saratoga Springs and the studio Worpswede.

Among the interpreters of his music include ensembles such as The Chicago 21st Century Music Ensemble, Arcadian Winds in Boston, the ensemble Phorminx in Darmstadt, the Bangkok Saxophone Quartet, Duo Contemporain from Rotterdam, or ensemble unitedberlin Berlin.

His compositional output includes works for a variety of ensembles, from solo chamber works over works for the musical theater to multimedia installations. Of particular importance in his artistic career is both the common composing with amateurs, as well as the collaboration with artists from the folk music field and from non-European cultures. He is one of the artistic directors of the Cross Sound festival in Southeast Alaska.
