Stefan Holm

Stefan Holm ( born May 25, 1976 in Forshaga ) is a former Swedish high jumper and Olympic champion.

The first major successes had Holm hall competitions. He was four times world champion in the Hall: 2001 in Lisbon with 2.32 m in 2003 in Birmingham at 2.35 m, 2.35 m in 2004 in Budapest and 2008 in Valencia with 2.36m. Twice he was European Indoor Champion 2005 in Madrid with 2.40 m and 2.34 m in 2007 in Birmingham.

Outdoors the first great success was his silver medal at the World Athletics Championships in Paris in 2003 with 2.32 m. At the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 he won the gold medal with 2.36 meters. Then at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 2005, he started as a top favorite, but was in a competition with a very average performance of 2.29 m only seventh. Also at the European Championships in 2006 in his native Gothenburg, he won then at least the bronze medal. 2007 finished spar at the World Championships in Osaka just the fourth place, as in the following year at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Holm was ( in a competition weight of 70 kg ) is the smallest of the world-class high jumper, to be 1.80 m compatriot Linus Thörnblad 2006 pushed forward with a size of 1.81 m to the world elite. Holm is economics student in the Swedish city of Karlstad and is trained by his father Johnny Holm since 1996. In 2004 he was awarded the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal - and Radiosportens Jerringpris.
