Stefan Junge

Stefan Young ( born September 1, 1950 in Leipzig, Saxony ) is a former German athlete who - starting for the GDR - at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 the silver medal in the high jump won (2.21 m).

Stefan boy was as a teenager, first decathlete and pole vaulter and was in both disciplines in 1966 Spartakiadesieger (a kind GDR championships for children's ages).

He was decathlon runner-up to the European Junior Games in Leipzig in 1968 and then moved because of an injury to the high jump. There he fell on by frequently changing jump styles; he jumped basically all the techniques except the flop (see also high jump techniques ). His Olympic medal he ersprang with the dip Turnstone ( straddle ).

Stefan boy took part in the European Athletics Championships in 1971 and finished fifth. After his Olympic success in 1972, he was active with no major international highlights to 1974. He was a civil engineer and received his doctorate. In his playing career was launched for the SC and the DHfK Leipzig trained with Alfred Sgonina. He was at that time 1.95 m tall and weighed 85 kg.

In 1972 he was awarded for his sporting success at the Olympic Games in Munich, the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.
