Stefan Liv

Stefan Daniel Patryk Liv ( born December 21, 1980 as Patryk Śliż in Gdynia, Poland; † 7 September 2011 in Tunoschna near Yaroslavl, Russia) was a Swedish professional ice hockey goaltender, who during his active career, among others, the HV71 in the Swedish Elitserien, the Grand Rapids Griffins stood in the American Hockey League as well as the HK Sibir Novosibirsk and Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the Kontinental Hockey League contract. He was adopted at the age of two years by a Swedish family.

Career

Stefan Liv began his career in 1999 at the HV71. After his first season, he was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2000. In the 2000 /01 season he was already goalkeeper of HV 71 2002 he won the bronze medal at the World Championships and was awarded in the same year as the best goalkeeper in the Swedish league Elitserien Trofé with the Honkens.

In 2004 he was Swedish professional ice hockey champion and won with the Swedish national team silver medal at the World Championships. In 2006 he won with the Swedish team until the gold medal at the Winter Olympics, and only a few months later he became world champion.

In the summer of 2006 he was awarded with the Detroit Red Wings a one- year contract, but belongs primarily to the cadres of the Grand Rapids Griffins, the farm team of the Red Wings in the AHL. On November 18, 2006, he was allowed to sit for the first time as a substitute goalkeeper in an NHL game on the bench, as goalkeeper Dominik Hasek and Chris Osgood was injured paused. But to use it was not in the NHL. For the Grand Rapids Griffins, he played in the 2006/07 season 34 times.

In the summer of 2007 he returned to Sweden and signed a three - year contract with HV71. With the club he again won the Swedish championship and was named the best player of the season with the Guldpucken. In 2010 he moved to HK Sibir Novosibirsk Russian. In May 2011, Liv was obliged Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. On September 7, 2011, he died in a plane crash near Yaroslavl killed.
