Stefan Maierhofer (born 16 August 1982 Gablitz ) is an Austrian football player at the position of a striker.

Career

Clubs

From 8 to 14 years Maierhofer played for the resident at his birthplace SV Gablitz and until the age of 20 at FC Tulln, for the point in the game mode in the first division he came one season after his youth used. For the season 2002/ 03 he moved to the regional league First Vienna FC 1894, Austria's oldest football club, which he, however, left after only one season. Before the end of the season 2006/ 07 he left the second team of Bavaria and received from February 1, 2007 is eligible to play for second division side TuS Koblenz. The following season he played until January 7, 2008 for the Premier League rivals Greuther Fuerth, before he returned to Austria only ten times.

With Substitutes in the 57th minute for Mario Bazina on February 16, 2008 ( 24th Round ) he made his debut for the Bundesliga SK Rapid Wien, who won 2-0 at SK Austria Kärnten. His first goal he scored (Matchday 27 ) on March 2, 2008 in a 2-0 win in the away game against Sturm Graz. After only three matches played earlier in the season 2009/10 Maierhofer moved to England for the first division promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers, for whom he in his first game on 12 September 2009 ( 5th Round ) in the 1-3 defeat at Blackburn Rovers scored the only goal. In March 2010, Maierhofer joined on loan for one month to the second division Bristol City, for whom he was used three times. 3 April 2010 (33rd Round ) in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest - on as a substitute in the 82nd minute - he took the part of the injured goalkeeper, since already three field players were off the bench. Since the second division had decided against the Loan extension, Maierhofer came after his last game on 10 April 2010 ( 34th Round ) in the 1-0 victory over Swansea City to Wolverhampton back.

For the 2010/ 11 season he was loaned to the German second division club MSV Duisburg in August 2010 and arrived on 22 of the month (1st Round ) 3-1 away win against VfL Osnabrück to its first use. In the 4-1 home win over FC Ingolstadt 04 on 28 August 2010 ( 2nd Round ), he scored two goals. The MSV Duisburg he reached the DFB Cup Final 2011, including Maierhofer had contributed with four goals during the contest. Maierhofer went back to England for the time being, since the MSV Duisburg funding for a commitment not been able to muster. In August 2011 he moved to around one million euros back in the Austrian Bundesliga for FC Red Bull Salzburg. In Salzburg he was wearing the number 9 and should replace Joaquín Boghossian there. On January 7, 2013, his contract was terminated by mutual agreement.

National

Maierhofer was nominated in April 2008 by Josef Hickersberger owing to strong performance in the championship in the extended squad for the 2008 European Championship on home soil. Under Karel Brückner, who succeeded Hickersberger, Maierhofer came on 20 August 2008 in a 2-2 draw in the Test match against Italy to its first use in the national jersey. His first goal he achieved September 5, 2009 in a 3-1 victory over the Faroe Islands as part of the qualification for the 2010 World Cup.
