Stefan Sagmeister

Stefan Sagmeister (born 1962 in Bregenz, Austria ) is an Austrian graphic designer and typographer.

Life and work

Sagmeister studied graphic art and design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. With a Fulbright Scholarship, he continued to study at the Pratt Institute in New York. At the age of 29 Sagmeister moved to Hong Kong to work at the advertising agency Leo Burnett.

In 1993 he moved back to New York and founded Sagmeister Inc., his own agency. His passion for the music he has lived with CD cover designs and packaging for many well-known artists, including Lou Reed, The Rolling Stones, David Byrne, Aerosmith and Pat Metheny. In 1997 and 1999 he designed posters for the AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts ), the title page for the design magazine Print ( March / April 1996) and the New York issue of the Japanese design magazine Idea. Since June 2012, he leads the agency together with the designer Jessica Walsh under the name " Sagmeister & Walsh ".

Awards

Sagmeister has been nominated six times for a Grammy and won it twice. He received the Album Design of the longplayer Once in a Lifetime Talking Heads, as well as for Everything That Happens Will Happen Today each one Grammy. He also received several international awards.

In June 2008, Sagmeister was awarded by students of the Cologne International School of Design Design Award " Thumper".

2009 received Sagmeister worth € 50,000 Lucky Strike Designer Award.

2013: Golden Medal of the Republic of Austria
