Stefano Bianchini

Stefano Bianchini (born 1970 ) is an Italian mathematician.

Bianchino his doctorate in 2000 at the SISSA ( Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati ) in Trieste in Alberto Bressan (On singular Approximations to Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws). He is at the Istituto per le Applicazioni del Calcolo M. Picone (IAC ) in Rome.

He deals with the theory of partial differential equations, specifically hyperbolic conservation laws. With his teacher Bressan he could solve the long outstanding issue of stability and convergence of approximate solutions of vanishing viscosity for one-dimensional nonlinear hyperbolic systems .. Bianchini led thereby new concepts one in which he of the solutions with the help of the Center Manifold Theory locally as superpositions progressive waves represented.

In 2004 he was awarded the EMS price and was invited speaker at the 4th European Congress of Mathematicians (singular approximation to hyperbolic systems of conservation laws in one space dimension).
