Steffen Grummt

Steffen Grummt ( born September 15, 1959 in Wilkau- Haßlau ) is a former athlete from East Germany, who specialized in the decathlon. In 1985, he joined the bobsleigh and became world champion.

Steffen Grummt 1979 East German champion in the decathlon. The following year he reached at the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 with 7892 points in eighth place, with Grummt was the best discus thrower in the field. At the European Championships in 1982 in Athens, he finished with 8218 points in fourth place. In 1982, Grummt with 8251 points also his personal best in the decathlon on. At the World Championships 1983 in Helsinki Grummt was eighth with 8149 points. In September 1983, Grummt, together with Uwe Freimuth and Wolfgang Lindner second in the all-around European Cup, he reached 8081 points.

As an athlete Grummt competed for the SC Motor Jena. At a height of 1.91 m his competition weight was 82 kg. In the becoming public knowledge after the fall of documents to the state doping in the GDR was found in the doped athletes also the name of Grummt.

After the Olympics boycott 1984 Grummt switched to bobsledding. In 1985 he was at the World Championships in Cervinia with the pilot Detlef Richter second in the two-man bob. In the four-man event he started in Bob Bernhard Lehmann and was together with Matthias Trübner and Ingo Voge world champion. At the World Championships 1986 he won together with Detlef Richter bronze in the two-man bob. The same medal won both also at the European Championships in 1986. Reports by employees of state security meant that he was expelled from his club ASK forward Oberhof and had to end his athletic career in February 1987.

In August 1984, Grummt married the former swimmer Kornelia Ender. Since the turn of the couple lives in Mainz, where Grummt deputy general manager was at the Youth Sports Rhineland- Palatinate.
