Steffen Reiche

Steffen Reiche (* June 27, 1960 in Potsdam ) is a Protestant clergyman, and was a German politician ( SPD). He was from 1994 to 1999 Minister of Science, Research and Culture 1999-2004 Minister of Education, Youth and Sport of the State of Brandenburg. From 2005 to 2009 he was a member of the German Bundestag.

Life

After graduation in 1979 Steffen Reiche began a study of Protestant theology at Sprachenkonvikt Berlin, which 1982/1983 he interrupted to do an apprenticeship as a carpenter. In 1986, he completed his theological studies and was pastor from 1988 to 1990 in Christine village.

After leaving the Bundestag kingdoms again worked as a pastor of the Evangelical Epiphaniengemeinde in Berlin- Charlottenburg, as well as interim pastor of the congregation of Berlin - Nikolassee. Since 25 November 2013, is now ordinary pastor at the church Niko Lasseer.

Steffen Reiche is married and has three daughters.

Party

Rich was on 7 October 1989, the founders of the Social Democratic Party of the GDR ( SDP) and was once a member of the board.

Following the unification of the SDP with the SPD he was by July 2000 state chairman of the SPD Brandenburg.

Member of Parliament

From March 1990 to the accession of the GDR to the Federal Republic of Germany on 3 October 1990 he was a member of the first freely elected People's Chamber of the GDR.

From October 1990 until the resignation of his mandate on 20 October 2005 Rich was a member of the Landtag of Brandenburg. He was most recently in 2004 started as a candidate for the direct mandate in the constituency Teltow -Flaming II and collected over the national list of his party.

From 2005 to 2009 Rich was a member of the 16th German Bundestag and was there on the board of the SPD parliamentary group. He was also chairman of the German-Caucasian Parliamentary Friendship Group and member of the Parliamentary Advisory Council of the Foundation for the Sorbian People. Steffen Reiche moved with 37.6% of the primary vote as directly elected representative of the constituency Cottbus - Spree -Neisse in the Bundestag. In the 2009 federal election he lost his direct mandate to the candidate of the left, who received 2.1% more first votes. Since Rich was not protected by the state list, he retired from the Bundestag.

Public offices

After the state elections in 1994 Rich was October 11, 1994 appointed Minister of Science, Research and Culture in led by Prime Minister Manfred Stolpe state government of Brandenburg (Cabinet Stolpe II). After the parliamentary election in 1999 he took over the leadership of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (Cabinet Stolpe III) on 29 September 1999. In this office he also belonged to the from June 2002, led by Matthias Platzeck government. After the state elections in 2004, he resigned from the Cabinet on 19 September 2004.

Rich is president of the Brandenburg Association of Athletics Federations.
