Stefi Talman

Stefi Talman ( born January 3, 1958 in Zurich ), actually Stefanie Thalmann, is a Swiss shoe designer.

Life

Stefi Talman grew up in Zurich. She is the daughter of Regula Nydegger, a Swiss teacher and rhythm Kam - Tim Leung, a mathematician from Hong Kong, who now lives in France. When Stefanie was four years old, her mother married the painter Roland Thalmann, whose name she took.

In 1975, she attended the preliminary course at the College of Art and Design Zurich ( HGKZ ), then they began a three- year apprenticeship as a measure shoemaker in Winterthur. Her education ended with additional training to cutting technique at the Institute Ars Sutoria in Milan.

Opened in 1979, Talman her first studio in Zurich, where it produced small batches of handmade shoes. The models, which attracted attention because of their lightness and unusual coloring, enabled her to work with a greater sales. 1979/80, the first collection was shown under the label Stefi Talman. Among the four models, which were placed in a large range of colors, there was ZIP, an ankle- high boot with a sloping, passing over the instep zipper. The model, which caused a sensation internationally and has been widely copied, Stefi Talman to break through. After seven collections and several changes of producers and manufacturers, the label was discontinued in 1986.

Talman then worked freelance for various European and Asian footwear companies. Among them were design assignments for Charles Jourdan, Freelance, Fiorucci and the Central Group in Bangkok.

In 1994, the designer label Stefi Talman in Zurich scratch. Talman has since worked with a shoe manufactory together near Venice. In 1999, the collection was enhanced by pockets and purses. Opened in 2001 Stefi Talman their own shop in the old town.

Style

The prototypes of the bars are still made largely by the designer herself. Their distinctive style is characterized by functional design elements, clean lines, splashes of color and contrasts. Talman uses high quality materials such as calfskin, goat and calfskin, with a preference for specific pressures and surfaces.

Since 2007, Talman is on the board of netzhdk, the alumni organization of the Zurich University of the Arts
