Steg, Valais

Web ( Valais German: Schtäg ) is a village in the Upper Valais and belongs to the political community web - Hohtenn in the district of West Raron the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

The village lies at the southern end of the valley web Lötschental in the German-speaking part of the canton. To the west it borders the river Lonza, which also marks the county line, and to the community Gampel. The town has about 1,300 inhabitants (as of 2006) and is an important location for trade and industry in the Upper Valais.

History

The present village was originally called web Benken. The name 'Bridge ' comes from the bridge here, which links the villages of Gampel and dock. The name Benken disappeared in 1720 as a designation for the community.

On 16 December 2007, the citizens of the communities and web Hohtenn agreed to a fusion community. The fusion community to community web - Hohtenn was completed on 1 January 2009.
