Steigra is a municipality in the district Saale in Saxony- Anhalt. It belongs to the municipality Weida -Land, which has its headquarters in the town of Nemsdorf - Göhrendorf.

Geography

Steigra between Halle ( Saale) and Erfurt in the northern part of the wine growing region of Saale- Unstrut region.

History

In a resulting 881-899 Directory of tithing of Hersfeld Monastery Steigra first mentioned as requiring a tenth place in the frieze Stegera field in a document.

On 1 January 2010, the municipalities Steigra and Albersroda merged to form the new municipality Steigra.

Natural Monuments

In Steigra there with the Troy castle one of the rare walk- turf mazes. Near the castle Troja takes the damage (r ) flinde. Under this Linde was held in the medieval court, where her name stirs.

Directly by the municipality runs the federal highway 180 from Hettstedt to Naumburg (Saale ).

On and especially under the municipal area the new line Erfurt-Leipzig/Halle runs with the Unstruttal bridge as the second- longest bridge in Germany and the Osterbergtunnel. The information center is located at the eastern entrance to the tunnel in the district Kalzendorf.
