Look at the northern flank of the Steinberg stone

The Steinberg is a 2215 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Kitzbühel Alps.

Location

The Steinberg rises between the valleys of the Windauer Ache and Kelchsauer Ache. The source rich Kar between the northern edge of the stone mountain stone, to which Ramkarkopf ( 2063 m) and Steinberg (1886 m ) is the Steinberg ditch, which empties itself into the Windauer Ache. In the south of Steinberg's the Trattenbach that feeds the Short Grundache Springs, a tributary of the Kelchsauer Ache.

Use of the mountain

Above the tree line the open slopes are used as grazing land for sheep, goats, cows and horses. Especially flocks of sheep are found in summer near the summit. A ropeway leads from the Gamskogelhütte to Lagfeldenalm. The trails are all reported with tree and road markings.

Mountain climb

From Kelchsau it goes on the track on the Mountain " Sonnblick " to the Demmel huts. From here we ride through the Lodronalmen by free pastureland leads up to Lodrongipfel (1925 m). From here you can reach in about 1 ½ hours to the summit of Stone Mountain Stone. Overall, a walk of five hours is to be set.

On the befahrberen forest, Windautal that leads to the foot of Kröndlhorns, you get to Steinberghaus and Gamskogelhütte. The shortest but also most difficult route leads on the eastern flank of the Gamskogelhütte on the Ahornaualm up steeply to Lagfeldenalm. From here it goes through open terrain along a path not paved, but marked up to the summit. Also a ascent from the Steinberg home is possible and leads through the Steinberg trench over the Neuhögenalmen and Oberkaralm up to Lodronjoch. From there you can reach via the Ramkarkopf to Steinberg.

All trails, but especially the eastern flank require good slip resistance. In winter, the Steinberg is a popular and challenging goal for ski touring.

Summit

The Steinberg is provided with a cross on the summit of steel, can be found on the stamp and register book. The summit cross was - built in the summer of 1978 - in its current form.

The summit offers impressive views of the Brixen Valley and the Kaiser Mountains in the north. To the south, the ridge line of the Kitzbühel Alps extends to the prominent peaks of Kröndlhorns ( 2444 m ) and the Salzach vulture ( 2466 m).
