Steinheim, Luxembourg

Steinheim ( Lux: Steenem ) is a part of the municipality Rosport town in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It lies on the Sauer and has 537 inhabitants (as of 2007).

Steinheim is an ancient settlement, probably of Celtic origin, built on stilts in the Sauer valley. The name Steinheim first appeared in the year 704, in the context of the founding of the abbey of Echternach.

History

In the years 694 / 695-704 Irmina has Oeren of the Willibrord Villa Steinheim ( = Staneheim ) on the oxygen given. Thus Steinheim has heard for a long time to Echternach Abbey.
