Sünikon ( dialect: Steimer ) is a municipality in the district of Dielsdorf the canton of Zurich in Switzerland.

Earlier in red was a boar on the crest Steinmaurs. This animal but was replaced by the Capricorn at a community meeting.

Geography

Sünikon located in Zurich lowlands and is a so-called suburban residential community and is part of the metropolitan area of Zurich. The air distance to Zurich is 15 km. Of the 939 hectares account for 57% to agriculture, 29% forest, 5 % to 8% on transport and settlements.

The municipality consists of the villages Obersteinmaur, Sünikon, Schibler and Sünikon.

Population

On 31 October 2004, the community numbered 2904 inhabitants ( year 2849), of which 401 were foreigners, which corresponds to a foreign population of approximately 13.8%. The population density per hectare settlement area is now approximately 23 people.

1414 persons ( 48.7 %) are reformed and 811 ( 27.92 %) Roman Catholic. The remaining 679 persons ( 23.38 %) belong to other faiths or without religion.

Sünikon has a kindergarten and a primary school. The senior is visited in Dielsdorf.

Economy

According to the Census 1998, there Sünikon in 127 workplaces (39 industrial / commercial and 88 services) with a total of 610 employees ( 212 Industry / Trade and 398 services).

Traffic

Sünikon is located on the Wehntal (upper Glatt Niederweningen ), the lines of the S5 ( Pfäffikon SZ- Zurich HB- Niederweningen ) and S55 (upper Glatt Niederweningen ) of the S -Bahn Zurich is busy. The trains run every hour of the S5, the S55 is, until 21.00 clock establishes a second connection per hour.

From Sünikon station in the district Sünikon operated by Postbus CRVO bus lines operate 510 ( Sünikon upper Glatt) and 535 ( Dielsdorf- Stadel ) to the municipality stops Municipal House, Obersteinmaur and Heitlig (only 535).

The main road 17 from Zurich to Doettingen performs Sünikon.

History

Sünikon was founded by the Romans. That's why you can read in the first documentary mention Steinmaurs still the name Steinmurico.
