Stekene is a Belgian municipality located in the Flemish region. It is located in the province of East Flanders and belongs to Arrondissement Sint -Niklaas. The municipality has 17,487 inhabitants ( 1 January 2012) and an area of ​​44.80 km ².

Stekene comprises the main town and the districts Hellestraat, Kemzeke, small Sinaai and Koewacht. The municipality borders directly on the Dutch province of Zeeland. The nucleus is located 8 km northwest of Sint -Niklaas, 25 km west of Antwerp, 27 km north-east of Ghent and 46 km north- west of Brussels (all figures in a straight line up to the city centers ).

The next highway exits are located a few kilometers south-west at Waasmunster and Sint-Niklaas at the A14/E17.

In Sint -Niklaas is the nearest regional station in Antwerp and Ghent and the nearest train station with national rail services.

In Antwerp there is a regional airport and close to the Belgian capital, Brussels, an international airport.
