Stellan Bengtsson

Stellan Bengtsson ( born July 26, 1952 in Falkenberg, Sweden) was in the 1970s and 1980s, to the best table tennis players in the world. He is a world champion and European champion.

Delimitation of namesakes

Before, there was already a Swedish table tennis player named Stellan Bengtsson. To discriminate between these is known technically as Stellan Bengtsson 1, the world champion of this article is called Stellan Bengtsson 2. Stellan Bengtsson 2 is not related to Stellan Bengtsson 1, nor with the European champion Ulf Bengtsson.

Career

Stellan Bengtsson 1970 professional and trained for some time in Japan. He is left-handed. In 1971 he was in Nagoya - the first European since 1953 - world champion in men's singles. In the final, he defeated the defending champion Japanese Shigeo Itoh. The victory was especially valuable, because the first time since 1965, the Chinese top players again took part in the TT World Championships. He was awarded the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal - For this performance. The somewhat surprising success in 1971, he confirmed in a row with a number of international titles. A total of 213 countries battles he participated in the Swedish national team.

Bengtsson also played several years in the German Bundesliga:

1983 Bengtsson was German champion with the team of ATSV Saarbrücken.

Material and style of play

The Swedish artist Martina Falkehag Finn created in 2006 a bronze statue of table tennis player in the value of 500,000 Swedish crowns. This statue stands in the town hall of Falkenberg.

Private

Bengtsson is married to the former American table tennis national team Angelita. He has a daughter Suco Li and twins Samuel and Christopher.
