Youth and early career

Stephan Andersen was first formed in the youth academy of Brøndby IF. A few years later, he joined the youth team of Hvidovre IF, 2000 where he then made his first game in the first team. There he became a regular player in no time. With good performances in Hvidovre he attracted the attention of local rivals AB Copenhagen, which he joined in 2002. There he played his first game in the highest Danish league (SAS Superligæn ) and became an instant goalkeeper. In his first season he reached with AB on the 9th place in the table, which was enough to avoid relegation. In the following season, although Andersen was called to the national team, but with AB he dismounted in the second division.

Charlton Athletic

After the European Championships in Portugal, Andersen moved along with team-mate Dennis Rommedahl abroad to Charlton Athletic, which was then played in the Premier League. Andersen could not prevail there, however, and came in two and a half years to only 17 missions, which is why he left the club again in early 2007.

Brøndby IF
