Stephan Engels

Stephan Engels ( born September 6, 1960 in Lower Kassel ) is a former German football player.

Engels came from the youth of the 1st FC Cologne and played his first professional season 1978/1979 for the 1st FC Cologne. The young midfielder quickly became a regular player and gave in 1982 his debut for the German national team. In the same year he was also as retrieval players in the extended squad for the World Cup 1982 in Spain. Overall, he played eight games with the German national team.

Angel biggest success was winning the cup in 1983. Twice he was German vice-champion, another highlight of his career were the games in the final of the UEFA Cup in 1986 against Real Madrid, but the lost Cologne.

Stephan Engels played 236 times in the Bundesliga, scoring 39 goals. During the winter break of the season 1988/89 he moved to city rivals SC Fortuna Köln in the 2nd Bundesliga. After numerous injuries Engels finished his career during the season 1989 /90 and became a coach. In the 1995/1996 season he was head coach of the 1st FC Cologne. He took over the team after the second match of Morten Olsen, but was replaced after the 25th Round by Peter Neururer because he did not have the hoped-for success. Since then, he has never worked again in the Bundesliga as a coach. He remained until the 1998/99 season coach of the second team of FC. In 1999 he joined as a manager for Wuppertal SV. 2004/ 05 he worked one season as coach of the SCB Viktoria Köln, 2005/06 he returned to the 1st FC Cologne, worked as chief scout and later as a youth coordinator. Since April 22, 2013 Stephan Engels is coach of the U21 1.FC Cologne.

He also plays in the tradition of the team 1 FC Cologne and since 2010 Chairman of the TuS Mondorf 1910/1920 eV
