Stephan Hocke

Stephan Hocke ( born October 20, 1983 in Suhl ) is a former German ski jumper. His greatest achievement is winning the gold medal in the team competition at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Career

Squatting began in 1992 with the exercise of the Nordic combined, in which his father was manager of a DSV squad and moved at the age of 14 years at a special jumping. In the 1997/98 season, he celebrated his first success with the win in the German Junior Championship. At the Summer Grand Prix 2001, he started for the first time at an international competition. After he was able to occupy immediately took 20th place, he also took part in the subsequent Grand Prix competitions in Japan, where he first jumped to a ninth place in Sapporo in the top ten. At the end of November 2001 in Kuopio, Finland held the season opener of the Ski Jumping World Cup 2001/ 02 he was again able to occupy places in the top ten with a seventh and a fifth place. At the next World Cup in Titisee -Neustadt, he was able to prove his first podium as third. A week later, on 15 December 2001, he celebrated his only World Cup victory in the World Cup competition of the Gross- Titlis -Schanze in Engelberg. In the following Vierschanzentournee he brought stable performance and finally finished in tenth place in the tour standings. When it takes place World Cup in Willingen, he was able to prove in the team competition with the team with the third place another podium finish. Due to his achievements squat was nominated for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. After he was not used in competition on the normal hill, he could occupy the twelfth place in the individual competition on the large hill. At the conclusion of scheduled team competition on the large hill, he won the gold medal together with Sven Hanna Wald, Martin Schmitt and Michael watch men. The rest of the World Cup season was for squatting mixed: While he was with the team in Lahti third party, but he could not occupy top places more in the individual competitions. His good results from the beginning of the season, however, were enough for ninth place in the overall World Cup standings.

In the following years, crouch always alternating between the World Cup, where he rarely reach top results, and the second-class Continental.

End of August 2003, he crashed heavily at a training jump of the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck and retired among others, a fracture of thoracic vertebra and several hair cracks. Nevertheless, he was able to again participate in the World Cup in November 2003.

In the winter of 2004/ 05 he initially showed similar middling performance as in previous years, but could be increased over time and reached on 11 February 2005 in Pragelato with fifth place his best result in over two years. On 12 February 2005 he was employed in the team competition and was able to celebrate a third place in the team. Due to these positive achievements, he was appointed to the German squad for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf. There, however, he could not prevail at the team-internal secretion and took as a replacement part only in the official training runs. At the end of the season taking place ski flying in Planica Slovenia he could set his personal best of 208.5 m.

In mid-November 2006, he crashed in a training camp in Ramsau am Dachstein and broke his left collarbone. Already on the last weekend in December, he could go into the Continental again. In the team competition on February 11, 2007 in Willingen, he took another third place. Subsequently, he participated in Sapporo at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007. From the large hill he missed the second passage only just on the normal hill, he finished 27th rank. In team competition, the German team with squat had no chance because of the previously effected injury to Michael watch men and wound up a eighth place.

Immediately prior to the Four Hills Tournament 2012/2013 Stephan Hocke announced his immediate career end. Reason is the material battle in ski jumping as well as poor training conditions in his home in Thuringia.

Squat is a graduate of the Sports Gymnasium Oberhof and joined in the summer of 2003, the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr. Today he is studying sports science at the Friedrich -Schiller- University Jena.
