Stephan Niklaus

Stephan Niklaus ( born April 17, 1958) is a former Swiss track and field athlete, who specialized in the decathlon. The Basel holds since 1983 the Swiss record in this discipline.

1980 at the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 was Niklaus twelfth with 7762 points ( = 7721 points according to the currently valid 1985 rating ). At the World Championships 1983 in Helsinki Niklaus finished with 8212 points ( = 8207 points) in fifth place.

In the Swiss Athletics Championships, he won the 1983 title in the 100 -meter run, 1981, 1982 and 1983, he was champion in the decathlon. From 1981 to 1983, he improved to five times the Swiss decathlon record, he was the first Swiss decathlete who could surpass the 8,000 - point mark.
