Stephanie Nolen

Stephanie Nolen ( born September 3, 1971 in Montreal ) is a Canadian journalist and author. She is working as a foreign correspondent for the Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail. From 2003 to 2008, she had to report to the special order, the impact of the AIDS pandemic in Africa. She lives in New Delhi ( India) with her partner Meril Rasmussen and their son.

Childhood and education

Nolen grew up in a Catholic family in Montreal and Ottawa. She studied journalism at the University of King's College in Halifax, and then earned a Masters in Economic development ( economic development ) at the London School of Economics in London.

Journalistic career

Since 1993 she has worked for the prestigious Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail. From 2001 to 2003 she was a correspondent in Afghanistan and Iraq. Shortly thereafter, she was at his own request Africa correspondent. Focus reporting were the developments in politically unstable countries (including Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Zimbabwe and Uganda) as well as the health, social and political impact of the AIDS epidemic in Africa.

Since 2001 it also occurs as a writer in appearance. Her third book was published under the title 28 stories of AIDS in Africa and in German language.

For their socially engaged reporting she was awarded several times. Six times she was nominated for the prestigious National Newspaper Award in Canada and won twice in a row the award in the category International Reporting. 2003, 2004 and 2006, she was awarded the Amnesty International Award for Human Rights Reporting.
