Stephen Avenue

The Stephen Avenue is a large pedestrianized shopping street in downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is released during the day only for pedestrians, motorized traffic may operate in the period from 18 to 6 clock clock in the morning.

The street is known for Calgary's most exclusive restaurants, cafes and bars. In the street there are several shops, exclusive boutiques and specialty stores. Major shopping centers such as the Core Shopping Centre, Bankers Hall, Fashion Central, Scotia Centre and the Bay department store are located there.

On the road there is also Calgary's largest exhibition hall, the Telus Convention Centre, where the two hotels Hyatt Regency Calgary and Calgary Marriott is connected. For joyous celebration, nocturnal people the larger shopping malls offer nightclubs.

History

The street was named after George Stephen, 1st Baron Mount Stephen, the first president of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The Stephen Avenue is home to many historical buildings in the city, which have been declared a National Monument in 1992.
