Stephen B. Grimes

Stephen B. Grimes ( born April 18, 1927 in Weybridge, † September 12, 1988 in Positano ) was a British art director and production designer, who in 1986 won an Academy Award for Best Production Design.

Life

Grimes began his career as an art director and production designer in the film industry in 1953 in the film A princess falls in love and worked until his death at the scenic features of more than thirty films.

Oscars 1965 he was the first time for an Oscar for Best Production Design in the black and white film The Night of the Iguana ( 1964) by John Huston with Richard Burton, Deborah Kerr and Ava Gardner in the lead roles. 1971 was followed by a nomination for the British Academy Film Awards ( BAFTA Film Award ) for Best Production Design in Filmmelodram Ryan's Daughter ( 1970) by David Lean starring Robert Mitchum, Trevor Howard and Christopher Jones. Another Oscar nomination for Best Production Design, he got in 1974 with William Kiernan for The Way We Were (1973 ) by Sydney Pollack with Barbra Streisand, Robert Redford and Bradford Dillman.

At the Academy Awards in 1986, he shared with Josie MacAvin the Oscar for Best Production Design in Out of Africa (1985 ) Sydney Pollack with Meryl Streep, Robert Redford and Klaus Maria Brandauer.
