Stephen Chow

Stephen Chow (Chinese周星驰/周星驰, Zhou Xingchi Pinyin, Cantonese Chow Sing Chi, born June 22, 1962 in Hong Kong) is a Chinese film director and actor.

Biography

Chow spent his youth together with three sisters in Hong Kong. Stephen was Bruce Lee fan ever since he had seen a fight of it, and learned as his model the kung fu style Wing Chun.

In 1982, after graduating from high school, he was initially rejected by the television company TVB. Only after attending a night course for acting, he was finally taken.

In China he became famous as host of the children's series 430 Space Shuttle from 1983. He made his film debut in 1988 with the film Final Justice from Parkman Wong. After a few other minor roles, he was nominated for the Taiwanese Golden Horse award Award.

The international breakthrough came in 2001 with the film Shaolin Soccer (English: Shaolin Soccer, Cantonese: Siu lam juk kau ). With the movie Kung Fu Hustle he managed a worldwide success. Both films are heavily inspired by Chow's mo lei tau humor.
