Stephen Duffy

Stephen Anthony James Duffy (* May 30, 1960 in Birmingham ) is a British songwriter, singer and guitarist.

In addition to solo projects, among others, as Stephen " Tin Tin " Duffy ( hit Kiss Me, 1985), he also worked for Robbie Williams and the Barenaked Ladies. He was a founding member of Duran Duran and is currently lead singer of the group The Lilac Time.

Biography

Breakfast time

Through a workshop at the School of Foundation Studies & Experimental Duffy met with John Taylor. They founded together with Taylor's friend Nick Rhodes in 1978, Rock / New Wave band Duran Duran.

Taylor was initially a guitarist, but later switched to bass, Rhodes played from the beginning synthesizer, Duffy worked as a singer, songwriter and bassist.

In 1979 he left the school and the band even before Duran Duran signed their first major contract with EMI in 1980. He formed the band The Hawks, who in 1981 published a 4 - track album Words of Hope. The project was discontinued quickly.

Tin Tin

In 1982 he founded with John Mulligan and Dik Davis ( both were members of the band Fashion), Andy " Stoker " Growcott (of Dexys Midnight Runners ) and Bob Lamb (producer of UB40 ) a new band called Tin Tin. The band signed a contract with WEA Records in the United Kingdom (UK) and published the song Kiss Me, which made ​​it into the UK charts at # 155. 1983 signed Tin Tin in the U.S. a contract with Sire Records and Kiss Me was there to a hit. The follow-up single Hold It reached # 55 in the UK charts.

Duffy returned after work in the United States in his homeland and signed a new contract with Virgin 10th, where he began working on his album The Ups and Downs (produced by Stephen Duffy, Booker T. Jones, JJ Jeczalik, Nicholas Froome and Stephen Street) to operate under the name Stephen " Tin Tin " Duffy. The album reached # 35 in the UK album charts.

Dr. Calculus

Together with Roger Freeman of Pigbag Calculus was the album Designer Beatnik published in 1986 under the name Dr.. From the album two singles followed: Programs 7 and Perfume from Spain.

The Lilac Time

1986 began work on the first album by The Lilac Time, which came the same name in November 1987 by Swordfish Records on the market. In February 1988, there was a re-release of Fontana Records.

Solo

In addition to The Lilac Time Duffy continued to publish their own plates. 1993 was recorded with Nigel Kennedy Music In Color with Parlophone, which included the singles Natalie and Holte End Hotel. In August 1995, Duffy followed with the singles London girls and Sugar High.

Duffy took part in the Project Me Me Me, which was also Alex James of Blur, Justin Welch of Elastica and Charlie Bloor were involved. The project was scheduled for a Single Hanging Around, and was then re-dissolved as planned despite chart success. I Love My Friends was released in 1998 with the singles 17 and You Are. Virgin brought out in 1999 still the best-of album They Called Him Tin Tin with pieces from the 1980s.

The Devils

1999 Duffy was a tape of his Duran Duran years 1978-1979 in the hands, which is why he met shortly thereafter with Nick Rhodes. They decided to work together again and re-record the old songs from the band and released songs from the 1970s combined with modern ways of music production. The result was the Albnum Dark Circles, released under the name The Devils.

The Lilac Time

Duffy united The Lilac Time with his brother Nick and Michael Giri and new members Claire Worrall and Melvin Duffy. Was published in 2001 Looking for a Day in the Night in 1999 and lilac6. Compendium - The Fontana Trinity, a collection of songs from the first three albums, 2001 came out.

Keep Going appeared under the name Stephen Duffy & The Lilac Time 2003. In 2007, the last album to date Runout Groove came on the market. At the same time, the EP Happy Birthday Peace appeared with other new songs. 2009, a review of the entire career Duffys, the double album Memory and Desire - 30 Years in the Wilderness published.

Robbie Williams

Duffy is the co- author of the Robbie Williams singles Radio and Misunderstood contained on Williams' Greatest Hits. In October 2005, Intensive Care, co-written and co-produced by Duffy completely. Due to the great success as a music director, he was hired for the following Williams tour. For the first time Duffy was thus known to the general public. However, cooperation with Williams ended after the tour, not least because Duffy over the course of the year Claire Worrell, keyboards with Robbie Williams band, got married, which had previously been in a relationship with Williams.

In 1998 he met Steven Page. Together they produced for the band Barenaked Ladies songs Jane, Alcohol and Call And Answer. In addition they made together on an album under the name The Vanity Project.
