Stephen Kiprotich ( born February 27, 1989 in Cheptiyal, Kapchorwa District ) is a Ugandan long-distance runner and Olympic gold medalist in the marathon.

At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, he retired about 5000 m from the inlet port. In 2009, he came at the World Cross Country Championships in Amman on the 23th Place and in 2010, he finished fifth at the Mountain Running World Championships in Kamnik.

In the Cross Country Championships 2011 in Punta Umbria, he finished sixth and won bronze in the Ugandan team. A month later he won the Enschede Marathon in his debut on the 42,195 -km distance. In a marathon, the World Championships in Daegu, he ran to ninth place.

In 2012, he scored the third in the Tokyo Marathon. At the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London Kiprotich was with a time of 2:08:01 h Olympic champion in the marathon. Thus, it is only the second Ugandans, who won a gold medal at the Olympic Summer Games.

At the World Championships 2013 in Moscow, he won - in the absence of the best Kenyans - the title, making it by Gezahegne Abera 2001, the first marathon runner who was Olympic champion and world champion at the same time.
