Stephen Lee

Stephen Lee ( born October 12, 1974 in Trowbridge, Wiltshire ) is an English snooker player.

Career

Stephen Lee has been 184 Century Breaks achieved in his career and won five ranking tournaments of the snooker main tour, most recently the Grand Finals of the Players Tour Championship in 2012. Added to two titles in minor ranking tournaments.

1992 - 2000

Lee won the 1992 English Amateur Championship and was the same year his debut on the professional tour. Within five years, he advanced into the top 16 of the snooker world rankings.

In the 1997/98 season he reached the semifinals at each of the ranking tournaments Scottish Open and UK Championship. The following season he won by a final victory over Marco Fu at the Grand Prix for his first title in a ranking tournament. Also in the 1999/2000 season he twice reached such a playoff, but he was defeated in the finals of the 1999 China International Ronnie O'Sullivan with 2:9 and at the 2000 Welsh Open John Higgins with 8:9. On the other hand, he won in 1999 with the Millennium Cup an invitational tournament and was part of the victorious English team at the Nations Cup.

However, he returned in 2000 and negative headlines when he tested positive for cannabis.

2001 - 2010

With victories at the LG Cup in 2001 and the Scottish Open 2002, he consolidated his position in the world rankings. At the end of the season 2000/ 01 he achieved his best ranking 5th place. He retired in 2003 semi-finals of the World Snooker Championship in 2006 and won the Welsh Open; at the end of the 2006/07 season, however, he fell out of the Top 16. By the end of the decade he was ranked in the world rankings place between 20 and 30

On 12 February 2010, Lee was taken into custody for suspected fraud by the police later acquitted of the charges, however.

Since 2011

Since the beginning of the decade - under the direction of Barry Hearn - more professional snooker tournaments were held, Lee showed shape curve upwards again. He won two tournaments of the newly launched PTC series and was second in the Haikou World Open in 2012. He also won in 2012 with the PTC Grand Finals his fifth major ranking title. So he returned to the world rankings back below the 8 best.

On 11 October 2012, one day before his 38th birthday, Stephen Lee, however, was provisionally suspended by the WPBSA. In his match against John Higgins in the Premier League Snooker there had been conspicuous betting patterns on his defeat. Lee lost the game in which he had several seemingly simple chances at the registry of 2:3 to the frame gain, with 2:4. In addition to Lee's girlfriend after the encounter have paid 1,200 pounds to the girlfriend of the winning player's half of their betting profit. The World Association fined Lee a lock of twelve years and a fine in the amount of 47,000 €. This would go against the judgment in appeal.

Stephen Lee has been married since 2005 and has one daughter and three sons.
