Stephen McAlpine

Stephen A. McAlpine (* May 23, 1949 in Yakima, Washington ) is an American politician (Democratic Party). He was from 1982 to 1990 Vice- Governor of the State of Alaska.

Career

Stephen McAlpine, the fourth child of Robert E. and Myrtle B. ( Loomis ) McAlpine, attended school in Yakima and was two years in the Maryknoll Seminary in Mountain View, California. He then graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in history and political science. Then he graduated in 1976 in Law at the University of Puget Sound.

Stephen originally came to Alaska in 1970 and settled with a classmate in Valdez. In subsequent years, both worked on the Trans Alaska Pipeline. After qualifying as a lawyer in 1977 McAlpine opened with James D. Ginotti the law firm Ginotti & McAlpine, PC. During this time he was elected to the city council of Valdez and eventually served two terms as mayor. Then he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Alaska in 1982 and re-elected in 1986. He served under the governors William Sheffield and Steve Cowper. He then returned to his work as a lawyer back in Anchorage.
