Stephen Neale

Stephen Neale (born 9 January 1958) is a British philosopher. Since 2007 he is professor of philosophy at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Life

His Ph.D. Neale was awarded in 1988 at Stanford University. He then worked until 1990 at Princeton University. This year, he received a professorship at the University of California, Berkeley. He remained until 1999, in Berkeley. In the years 1996 and 1997 he held a visiting professorship at the Birkbeck College, University of London. In 1999 he finally moved to Rutgers University, where he remained until 2007. In 1995 he received a so-called Scholar -in- Residence grant from the Rockefeller Foundation, 1998, a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and 2002, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.

Services

Since the publication Descriptions Neale is regarded as a leading expert and defender of the labeling theory of Bertrand Russell. In Facing Facts Neale examines, among other things, the Slingshot argument.
