Stephen of Muret

Stephen of Muret (French: Étienne de Muret ), and Stephen of Thiers or Stephen of Grandmont ( Latinized Stephen de Mureto, Stephen or Stephanus Thiernensis Grandimontensis ) called ( probably * 1044, † February 8, 1124 ) was a French monk of 11. century and the founder of a monastic community, which later became the Order of Grandmont emerged. He was canonized in 1189, his feast day is February 8.

As a younger son of Étienne II, Vicomte de Thiers, out of the house Thiern, he was probably down to 1076 as a hermit in Ambazac (20 kilometers north of Limoges ). In the Muret mentioned area is more hermits, who due to a vision of their location close to the Grand Mont laid after his death and pledged his relics in the local church gathered.
